November 2017 – Marble Mazes

Continuing with our study of Forces and Motion, we created “Marble Mazes” to demonstrate gravity, inerita, and momentum.  Students designed and created “tilt mazes” and then moved marbles through them using gravity.  Did your marble roll too quickly and fly off the maze?  That’s because the marble had too much momentum.  Does your marble keep rolling even though you stopped tilting the maze?  That’s inertia!  Younger students created simple mazes, and older students were encouraged to add ramps, jumps, tunnels, and sharp turns to their mazes.
