Feb 2016 – Dry Ice

At our After-School Enrichment program at John Muir Elementary, we recently had a great time playing … I mean learning … about dry ice and how it sublimes directly from solid to gas.   The kids got to put the dry ice in a tub of water (using protective gloves, of course!) and watch the CO2 bubbles and then added some dish soap.  Instant foam!   They also found out what happens when you press a quarter onto dry ice (hint: it sounds cool).  And what dry ice experience doesn’t include the old “dry ice in a ziploc until it inflates and finally pops” experiment?
