January 2017 – Engineering Challenges

At Vicente Martinez High School, we presented several engineering challenges that allows students to solve problems and create solutions.   In the first session we asked our students to create a “Marble Wall” — a vertical maze that uses gravity and inertia to move marbles from the start to the end.  We also asked these students to use their knowledge of levers and inertial motion to build “Marshmallow Launchers” or catapults.  In addition to building, students improved their communication skills by presenting their design ideas and results to the rest of the class.
